Donington Park is a famous park and motor racing track. It is located near Derbyshire in North West Leicestershire, England. The land was once part of the Donington Hall estate.

Today, Tom Wheatcroft owns this exciting place. While it is mostly known for motor racing, the area also hosts fun music festivals. You can even find a Sunday market there!

A Place for Racing Action

Donington Park has been a hub for motor racing for many years. It opened in 1931 and quickly became popular. Many different types of races happen here. These include car races like the BTCC. Motorcycle races such as British Superbikes and SBK also take place.

Track Layouts

Donington Park has two main track layouts for racing. Each layout offers a different challenge for drivers.

The GP Circuit

The Grand Prix (GP) Circuit is the longer track. It is about 4.023 kilometers (2.5 miles) long. This circuit has 12 turns, making it exciting for racers. The fastest lap ever recorded on this circuit was by Ayrton Senna. He set the record in 1993 while driving a Formula One car for McLaren.

The National Circuit

The National Circuit is a bit shorter. It measures about 3.149 kilometers (1.957 miles). This layout has 10 turns. It is often used for national racing events.

The Grand Prix Dream

In July 2009, there was big news for Donington Park. It was announced that the Formula One British Grand Prix would move there. The plan was for the race to be held at Donington from 2010 to 2020.

However, by November of that same year, things changed. Enough money could not be raised to make the track ready. Because of this, hosting the Grand Prix became uncertain.
