AC/DC is a super famous hard rock band from Australia. They started in Sydney, Australia, in November 1973. AC/DC has sold over 200 million albums around the world! That's a lot of music!

The band's founders, brothers Malcolm Young and Angus Young, got the idea for the name from their sister, Margaret. She saw "AC/DC" written on a sewing machine. "AC/DC" stands for "alternating current/direct current". These are two different ways electricity flows. The band chose this name because their music was very energetic, like electricity! Even though AC/DC calls their music "rock and roll," many people see them as pioneers of heavy metal.
