The European Grand Prix is a special Formula One car race. It's not always held in the same country. Sometimes, it's a separate race. Other times, it's an honorary title given to another Grand Prix.

The idea of a "European Grand Prix" started a long time ago. The very first race to be called this was the 1923 Italian Grand Prix. It took place at Monza in Italy. A driver named Carlo Salamano won it in a Fiat car.

Since 1983, the European Grand Prix has been its own race. It often happens in a country that already has its own national Grand Prix race.
