2005 Formula One season facts for kids
The 2005 Formula One season was the 56th time this exciting racing championship took place. Fernando Alonso became the champion after a very close fight. His team, Renault F1, won the award for the best car builder, called the constructor's championship.

In 2005, many different teams and drivers competed for the championship. Here's a look at who was part of the action:
New Faces and Changes
The 2005 season saw many changes in who drove for which team. Only 7 drivers stayed with the same team they were with in 2004. Another 7 drivers moved to new teams!
Some teams also changed:
- Red Bull Racing took over the Jaguar team. They started using Cosworth engines. Their main driver was David Coulthard, who teamed up with Christian Klien.
- The Jordan Grand Prix team, which used Toyota engines, was bought by Midland Group. However, it kept the Jordan name until 2006.
- Sauber switched from Bridgestone to Michelin tires.
- After the United States Grand Prix, Peter Sauber sold most of his Sauber team to BMW. BMW announced they would run the team as their own factory team in 2006.
Race Results and Champions
The 2005 Formula One calendar included a new race in Turkey, near the border of Europe and Asia. This new track in Istanbul joined the circuits in Bahrain and China that were added in 2004. The 2005 season also had two of the hottest races ever! The track temperature in Malaysia was 51°C (124°F), and in Bahrain, it went over 56°C (133°F).
