The 1999 Formula One season was the 50th year of the Formula One racing championship. It was a very exciting year!
The big winner was Mika Häkkinen, who became the champion driver. His team, McLaren, came in second place for the teams' championship. The team that won the championship for all the car makers (called the "constructor's championship") was Ferrari.
A big moment in the season happened when famous driver Michael Schumacher got hurt. During the first lap of the British Grand Prix race at Silverstone, his brakes had a problem. He crashed and broke his leg. Because of this, he missed six races. He came back to race at the Malaysian Grand Prix later in the season.
