Ancient Times and Middle Ages
- 313 – A very important rule called the Edict of Milan was made public in Nicomedia. This rule, agreed upon by emperors Constantine the Great and Valerius Licinius, gave everyone in the Roman Empire the freedom to choose their own religion.
- 1325 – The famous traveler Ibn Battuta began his amazing journeys. He left his home in Tangiers to travel to Mecca and ended up traveling for 24 years!
- 1381 – In England, a big protest known as the Peasants' Revolt reached its peak. Rebels, led by Wat Tyler, even set fire to the Savoy Palace.
- 1514 – The Henry Grace à Dieu, a massive warship weighing over 1,000 tons, was officially launched. It was the biggest warship in the world at that time, built in England.
- 1525 – Martin Luther, a key figure in the Protestant Reformation, married Katharina von Bora. This was a significant event because it went against the rules of the Roman Catholic Church at the time.

- 1625 – King Charles I of England married Princess Henrietta Maria of France and Navarre in Canterbury.
- 1740 – Governor James Oglethorpe of Georgia tried to capture Spanish Florida during the Siege of St. Augustine, but he was not successful.
- 1774 – Rhode Island became the first British colony in North America to stop the practice of importing slaves.

- 1895 – Émile Levassor won the world's first true automobile race. He drove 732 miles from Paris to Bordeaux and back in less than 49 hours, reaching a speed of about 15 miles per hour!
- 1898 – The Yukon Territory was created in Canada, with Dawson chosen as its capital.

- 1917 – During World War I, German planes carried out a very deadly air raid on London. Bombers caused 162 deaths, including 46 children, and injured 432 people.
- 1927 – After his famous flight, aviator Charles Lindbergh was honored with a huge ticker tape parade in New York City.
- 1944 – In World War II, German tank commander Michael Wittmann attacked parts of the British 7th Armoured Division. He destroyed many tanks and vehicles in his Tiger I tank.
- 1944 – Also in World War II, Germany launched the first V1 Flying Bomb attacks on England.
- 1952 – A Swedish Douglas DC-3 plane was shot down by a Soviet fighter jet in an incident known as the Catalina affair.
- 1966 – The U.S. Supreme Court made a landmark decision in Miranda v. Arizona. This ruling means police must tell suspects their rights before questioning them.
- 1967 – U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson nominated Thurgood Marshall to be the first African American justice on the U.S. Supreme Court.
