Ancient Times (Before 1600)
- 306 – Constantine I was named the new Roman emperor by his soldiers. This was a huge step for him. He became one of Rome's most famous leaders.
- 315 – The amazing Arch of Constantine was finished in Rome. It was built to celebrate Constantine I's big victory. He won against Maxentius at the Milvian Bridge.
- 1139 – The Battle of Ourique took place. Prince Afonso Henriques defeated the Almoravid army. After this, he was declared the King of Portugal. This was a key moment in Portugal's founding!
- 1261 – The city of Constantinople was taken back by forces from the Empire of Nicaea. This brought back the Byzantine Empire. It had been interrupted for a while.
- 1536 – The city of Santiago de Cali was founded. Sebastián de Belalcázar founded it while looking for the legendary golden city of El Dorado.
- 1554 – A royal wedding happened! Mary I of England married Philip II of Spain. Their wedding was at Winchester Cathedral. This was a very important marriage for both countries.

- 1668 – A massive earthquake struck eastern China. It had a magnitude of 8.5. Sadly, over 43,000 people lost their lives.
- 1755 – British governor Charles Lawrence and the Nova Scotia Council ordered the deportation of the Acadians. This meant many people had to leave their homes.
- 1788 – The famous composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart finished his amazing Symphony No. 40.
- 1797 – During a failed attempt to conquer Tenerife in Spain, Horatio Nelson lost over 300 men. He also lost his right arm.
- 1837 – The very first time an electrical telegraph was used for business happened in London. It was a big step for communication. William Cooke and Charles Wheatstone showed how it worked.
- 1866 – The United States Congress created the highest military rank. It was called General of the Army. Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant was the first person to receive this honor.
