Historic Moments Before 1600
- 796 – King Æthelred I of Northumbria was killed in Corbridge. Another leader, Osbald, became king but only for a short time.
- 1428 – The Peace of Ferrara agreement ended a major conflict called the Wars in Lombardy in Italy. This peace helped the Italian Renaissance to grow.
- 1506 – The first stone was laid for the famous St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, a very important church.
- 1518 – Bona Sforza was crowned as the queen of Poland.
- 1521 – The trial of Martin Luther continued at the Diet of Worms. He bravely refused to change his religious beliefs, even though it was risky.

- 1689 – People in Boston rebelled against their governor, Sir Edmund Andros, in what was known as the 1689 Boston revolt.
- 1738 – The Real Academia de la Historia (Royal Academy of History) was started in Madrid, Spain.
- 1775 – American Revolution: British soldiers began to move by sea. Paul Revere and other riders famously warned everyone about the troops coming, leading to the Battles of Lexington and Concord.
- 1783 – The Three-Fifths Compromise was first discussed. This was an agreement to count enslaved African Americans as three-fifths of a person for tax purposes in the United States. It was later included in the Constitution.
- 1831 – The University of Alabama was founded in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
- 1847 – American forces won the battle of Cerro Gordo, which opened the way for them to invade Mexico during the Mexican-American War.
