Important Events
Spain and Portugal Make a Deal
On March 6, 1480, a special agreement called the Treaty of Toledo was signed. This treaty was between King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain and King Afonso of Portugal. They decided who owned which parts of the world. Portugal kept its lands in Africa, and Spain officially got the Canary Islands. This helped avoid arguments over new territories.
Russia Becomes Free
A very important event happened in 1480, known as the Great standing on the Ugra river. This was when Muscovy, which is now part of Russia, finally became independent from the Golden Horde. For a long time, the Golden Horde had ruled over many Russian lands. After this event, Moscow became the main city and capital of Russia.
