- Jacques Cartier explored parts of what is now Quebec and Montreal in Canada. His voyages helped map out new areas for European countries.

- 10 February – Song Ik-phil was born in Korea. He grew up to become an important politician.
- 23 June – Oda Nobunaga was born in Japan. He became a powerful daimyo, a type of feudal lord, who played a big role in uniting Japan.
- 1 July – Frederick II of Denmark was born. He later became the King of Denmark-Norway.
- 24 September – Guru Ram Das was born. He became the fourth of the Ten Gurus, or spiritual teachers, of Sikhism.
- Joan Waste was born in England. She was a young woman who faced great challenges because of her Protestant faith. She died in 1556 for her beliefs.
