  • 1846Elias Howe received a special paper, called a patent, for his invention: the sewing machine. This made making clothes much easier!
  • 1858 – An astronomer named George Mary Searle discovered a new asteroid and named it 55 Pandora.
  • 2008 – The Large Hadron Collider at CERN was turned on in Switzerland. It's one of the biggest science experiments ever, helping scientists learn about tiny particles.
