Powerful Earthquake in Chile
- February 8 – A very strong earthquake hit the city of Concepción, Chile. It was a magnitude 8.3 earthquake, which means it was incredibly powerful.
Pope Pius V and Queen Elizabeth I
- February 25 – Pope Pius V took a serious step against Queen Elizabeth I of England. He excommunicated her, which meant she was no longer allowed to be part of the Catholic Church. This was done with an official document called a papal bull, known as Regnans in Excelsis.
New Rules for the Roman Missal
