- 982 – A big battle happened at Cape Colonna in Southern Italy. King Otto II and his Frankish army were defeated by a Muslim army.
- 1223 – Louis VIII became the King of France after his father, Philip II, passed away.
- 1420 – The Battle of Vítkov Hill took place. Czech Hussite forces, led by Jan Žižka, won a major victory against a Crusade army.
- 1430 – Joan of Arc, a famous French hero, was handed over to Bishop Pierre Cauchon after being captured.
- 1596 – During the Anglo-Spanish War, English and Dutch troops attacked and took over the Spanish city of Cádiz. They left the next day.

- 1769 – An expedition led by Gaspar de Portolá started from San Diego. Their goal was to find the Port of Monterey in what is now California.
