The year 1430 was a time of important changes and events across Europe. Brave leaders, new groups, and even new ways of making art appeared. It was a year when a famous hero, Joan of Arc, faced a big challenge.

Key Events of 1430
Joan of Arc's Capture
- May 14 – French soldiers tried to help the city of Compiègne, which was under attack. This was called the Siege of Compiègne. A siege is when an army surrounds a city to try and take it over.
- May 23 – Joan of Arc, a young French hero, was captured. She was leading her army to help Compiègne when the Burgundians took her prisoner. This was a very sad moment for France.
Big Changes in Europe
- The powerful Ottoman Empire took control of the city of Thessalonica. They captured it from the Venetians, who were from Venice, Italy.
- A special group called the Order of the Golden Fleece was started. Philip III, Duke of Burgundy created it to celebrate his marriage. It was a very important knightly order.
- Bratislava Castle in what is now Slovakia became a strong fortress. This happened under the rule of Sigismund of Luxemburg.
- Švitrigaila became the new ruler of Lithuania. He took over after his cousin.
New Ideas and Creations
- People started using new ways to create art. For the first time, they used special optical methods to help them draw and paint.
- A new group of soldiers called Janissaries was formed. They were a very important part of the Ottoman army.
