- In April, a long conflict called the Hook and Cod wars finally ended. Jacqueline, Countess of Hainaut and Holland was forced by Philip the Good, the powerful Duke of Burgundy, to give up her lands to him. This meant that Hainaut and Holland were no longer independent areas.
- On June 1, a big battle took place called the Battle of San Romano. The city of Florence fought against Siena, and Florence won the battle.
- The Université de Caen was started in France. This new university became an important place for learning.
