- March 12: Building started for Canberra, which would become the new capital city of Australia.
- May 29: A famous ballet called The Rite of Spring was performed for the first time in Paris, France.
- July 10: A very hot temperature of 56.7 °C (134.1 °F) was recorded in Death Valley, California. This is one of the hottest temperatures ever recorded on Earth.
- October 14: A terrible mining accident happened in Senghenydd, Wales. This disaster killed 439 people and was the worst mining tragedy in the United Kingdom's history.
- November 7 to November 11: A huge storm, known as the Great Lakes Storm of 1913, hit the Great Lakes. It caused over 250 deaths and 19 ships were lost.
- December 12: The famous painting, the Mona Lisa, was found in Florence, Italy. It had been stolen two years earlier.
