Politics and Power
- In Greece, a group called the Military League pushed for changes. They made the parliament and King George I call a special meeting. This meeting was to update the country's Constitution, which is like its rulebook.
- The United Kingdom had a general election in January. This election happened because the House of Lords (a part of the government) didn't approve a budget plan. The Liberal Party won the most seats, but their lead was smaller than before.
- In America, the Republicans made a change to how the Speaker of the House of Representatives worked. They reduced the Speaker's power to choose who served on different committees.
- In South Africa, two important leaders, Louis Botha and James Hertzog, started a new political group called the South Africa Party.
- The British House of Commons approved David Lloyd George's 1909 budget for a second time. The House of Lords then also passed it on April 28.
- Andrew Fisher became the Prime Minister of Australia for the second time.
- Korea became a colony of Japan. This meant Japan took control of Korea.
