Jack Earle Haley (born July 14, 1961) is an American actor and director. He started acting when he was very young. Some of his first famous roles were Moocher in Breaking Away (1979) and Kelly Leak in The Bad News Bears movies (1976, 1977, 1978).
After working for many years behind the scenes, directing TV commercials, he returned to acting. He gained a lot of attention for his role in Little Children (2006). He was even nominated for a big award called the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for this role.
Later, he played important characters like the superhero Rorschach in Watchmen (2009). He also played the scary character Freddy Krueger in the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010). More recently, he was Grewishka, a cyborg character, in Alita: Battle Angel (2019). On TV, he played Odin Quincannon in Preacher and The Terror in The Tick.

Early life
Jackie Earle Haley grew up in Northridge, a neighborhood in Los Angeles. His father, Haven Earle "Bud" Haley, was a radio host and actor. His mother was Iris D. Douglas.
Career highlights
Haley began his acting career at just five years old. His very first role was voicing Dennis the Menace in animated commercials. He also played Dennis in two episodes of a TV show called Curiosity Shop.
He appeared in many films and TV shows as a child actor. He was well-known for playing Kelly Leak in the popular comedy The Bad News Bears and its follow-up movies. He also played Moocher in the 1979 film Breaking Away and its TV series. In the 1970s, he often played tough, sometimes troubled, characters.
For a while in the 1990s and early 2000s, Haley stopped acting and moved to San Antonio. During this time, he became successful as a producer and director of TV commercials.
In 2006, with a recommendation from actor Sean Penn, Haley returned to acting. He appeared in All the King's Men alongside Penn. After that, he gave a very praised performance in Little Children. This role earned him a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. In 2007, he was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which is a big honor in the movie world.
Haley owns his own production company called JEH Productions in San Antonio. In 2008, he was in Semi-Pro and Winged Creatures. In 2009, he starred in Zack Snyder's movie Watchmen as Rorschach. This role brought him a lot of positive reviews. He also appeared in Shutter Island in 2010, which was directed by Martin Scorsese.
In 2010, Haley took on the iconic role of Freddy Krueger in the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. He was set to play the role again in a sequel, but it was never made.
Haley was also a regular on the TV show Human Target from 2010 to 2011. He played Guerrero, a helpful character to the main hero. He also appeared in the 2012 film Dark Shadows, directed by Tim Burton. In Lincoln, directed by Steven Spielberg, he played Alexander H. Stephens. He later played the supervillain The Terror in the TV show The Tick.
Personal life
Jackie Earle Haley has been married three times. His first marriage was to Sherry Vaughan in 1979. He has two children: a son named Christopher (born 1986) and a daughter named Olivia (born 1998), from his second marriage to Jennifer Haley. He married his third wife, Amelia Cruz, in 2004. They live in San Antonio. Outside of acting, Haley is skilled in martial arts and holds black belts in Kenpo and Taekwondo.
