Jack Earle Haley (born July 14, 1961) is an American actor and director. He is known for playing many different characters in movies and TV shows.
Some of his first famous roles were Moocher in Breaking Away (1979) and Kelly Leak in The Bad News Bears movies from the 1970s. After working behind the scenes making TV commercials for many years, he returned to acting. He earned an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor nomination for his role in Little Children (2006).
Later, he became well-known for playing the superhero Rorschach in Watchmen (2009). He also played the scary character Freddy Krueger in the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. More recently, he appeared as Grewishka, a cyborg in Alita: Battle Angel (2019). On TV, he played Odin Quincannon in Preacher and The Terror in The Tick.

Early Life and Beginnings
Jackie Earle Haley was born and grew up in Northridge, a part of Los Angeles, California. His father, Haven Earle "Bud" Haley, was a radio host and actor. His mother is Iris D Douglas.
As a child actor, Haley appeared in many films and TV shows. He was especially famous for playing Kelly Leak in the comedy movie The Bad News Bears. He also starred in its follow-up movies, The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training and The Bad News Bears Go to Japan.
He also played Moocher in the popular 1979 movie Breaking Away. He later appeared in a TV show based on the same movie. In his very first movie, The Outside Man (1972), he played a lonely boy named Eric.
Career Highlights
After a break from acting in the 1990s and early 2000s, Jackie Earle Haley returned to the screen. During his break, he moved to San Antonio and became a successful director and producer of TV commercials.
His acting comeback started with a role in All the King's Men (2006). Then came his praised performance in Little Children (2006). For this role, he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. This is one of the highest awards an actor can receive.
Haley owns his own production company called JEH Productions in San Antonio. In 2008, he appeared in Semi-Pro and Winged Creatures.
A big role for him was playing Rorschach in Zack Snyder's 2009 movie Watchmen. Rorschach is a masked hero who tries to solve a mystery. This role brought him a lot of positive reviews. The movie also reunited him with his Little Children co-star Patrick Wilson. In 2010, Haley was in Shutter Island, a movie directed by Martin Scorsese.
In 2010, Jackie Earle Haley took on the iconic role of Freddy Krueger. He played this scary character in the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. He was set to play Freddy again in a sequel, but it was never made.
He also played Guerrero in the TV series Human Target. This show was about a bodyguard who helped people in danger. It aired for two seasons.
Later, he appeared in Dark Shadows (2012), directed by Tim Burton. He also played Confederate States Vice President Alexander H. Stephens in Steven Spielberg's movie Lincoln. More recently, he played the supervillain "The Terror" in the Amazon TV show The Tick.
Personal Life
Jackie Earle Haley has two children. His son, Christopher, was born in 1986, and his daughter, Olivia, was born in 1998. He married his third wife, Amelia Cruz, in 2004. They live in San Antonio.
Outside of acting, Haley is skilled in martial arts. He holds black belts in both Kenpo and Taekwondo.
