England Gains Control in France

On January 19, a major city in France called Rouen surrendered to Henry V of England. This was a big moment in the Hundred Years' War, a long conflict between England and France. With Rouen under English control, the entire region of Normandy in France became part of England's territory. This greatly increased England's power in France.

Trouble in Prague

On July 30, a dramatic event known as the first Defenestration of Prague took place. In Prague, the capital of what is now the Czech Republic, several officials were thrown out of a window. A Duke is Killed

On September 10, John the Fearless, who was the Duke of Burgundy, was assassinated. He was a very powerful leader in France. His killing was carried out by supporters of the Dauphin, who was the heir to the French throne. This event made the already tense relationship between different French noble families even worse.

New Islands Discovered

In 1419, Portuguese sea captains João Gonçalves Zarco and Tristão Vaz Teixeira made an important discovery. Working for Prince Henry the Navigator, they found the Madeira Islands. These islands are located in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Africa. This discovery was a key step in Portugal's Age of Discovery, as they explored new sea routes and lands.
