Early Times (Before 1600)
- 380 – Theodosius I, a Roman Emperor, made a grand entrance into the city of Constantinople. It was a big parade to show his power.
- 1190 – Conrad of Montferrat became the King of Jerusalem when he married Isabella I of Jerusalem.
- 1221 – The famous leader Genghis Khan won a big battle against Prince Jalal al-Din Mangburni at the Battle of the Indus. This helped the Mongols take over Central Asia.
- 1227 – At a meeting in Poland, Prince Leszek the White and Duke Henry the Bearded were attacked by assassins.
- 1248 – A huge landslide happened on Mont Granier in Europe. It was one of the biggest ever recorded and destroyed five villages.
- 1359 – Peter I of Cyprus became the new king of Cyprus after his father, Hugh IV of Cyprus, stepped down.
- 1429 – During the Hundred Years' War, Joan of Arc tried to capture the town of La Charité but was not successful.
- 1542 – In the Battle of Solway Moss, an English army defeated a much larger Scottish force near the River Esk.

- 1642 – Abel Tasman became the first European to find the island of Van Diemen's Land. This island was later renamed Tasmania.
- 1750 – Tarabai, a powerful leader in India, put Rajaram II of Satara in prison. He had refused to remove another important official.
- 1832 – South Carolina decided it would not follow certain tax laws passed by the U.S. government. This started a big disagreement called the Nullification Crisis.
- 1835 – The government in Texas created a special police force that rode horses. They were called the Texas Rangers.
- 1850 – Danish soldiers defeated a force from Schleswig-Holstein in the town of Lottorf.
- 1863 – During the American Civil War, Union forces led by General Ulysses S. Grant captured Lookout Mountain. This helped them break the Confederate army's hold on Chattanooga, Tennessee.
- 1877 – The famous book Black Beauty by Anna Sewell was published. It's a story about a horse and teaches us to be kind to animals.

- 1906 – A football game between the Massillon Tigers and the Canton Bulldogs led to accusations of cheating. This was the first big scandal in professional American football.

- 1929 – The Lapua Movement, a far-right group in Finland, officially began. They interrupted a communist event in Lapua, Finland.
