Goo Hara (January 3, 1991 – November 24, 2019), also known as Hara, was a talented South Korean pop singer and actress. She was a popular member of the girl group Kara. Goo Hara also appeared in TV shows like City Hunter in 2011.
She started her solo music career in July 2015. Her first solo album was called Alohara (Can You Feel It?). After Kara stopped working together in 2016, she continued her solo career with a new company, KeyEast. In June 2019, she began her solo activities in Japan, where fans loved her music. Her last song was "Midnight Queen", released on September 19, 2019. Goo Hara passed away on November 24, 2019.

Life and Career
Early Life and Education
Goo Hara was born in Gwangju, South Korea, on January 3, 1991. Her parents separated when she was eight years old. Goo Hara and her brother were raised by their grandmother. Her father worked hard to support the family.
She went to Woonchun Elementary School and Jeonnam Middle School. For two years, she trained as an athlete in track and field. Later, she moved to Seoul and attended Jeonju Fine Arts High School. She also went to Dongmyung Girls' Information Industry High School and Sungshin Women's University. During her school days, she worked as a model for online clothing stores.
2008–2015: Joining Kara and Acting Debut
Goo Hara joined the famous girl group Kara in 2008. This happened after a member named Kim Sung-hee left the group. In October 2009, she became a regular cast member on the TV show Invincible Youth.
In 2011, Goo Hara started her acting career in the SBS drama City Hunter. She played Choi Da-hye, who was the daughter of South Korea's president. In November 2011, she and Nicole Jung, another Kara member, became hosts for the music show Inkigayo. They left the show in August 2012 to focus on Kara's music.
In 2013, Goo Hara worked with Japanese musician Masaharu Fukuyama. They recorded a song called "Magic of Love" in Korean. This song was used in the Japanese drama Galileo. In October 2013, she became an ambassador for blood donation. In December 2014, she had her own TV show called On & Off on MBC Music.
Alohara (Can You Feel It?)
In January 2015, Goo Hara became a host for the KBS beauty show A Style For You. She hosted alongside other K-pop stars like Kim Heechul and Hani. In June 2015, she released a beauty book called Nail Hara.
In July 2015, Goo Hara officially started her solo music career. She released an album called Alohara (Can You Feel It?). This album reached number 4 in South Korea. The main song from the album was "Choco Chip Cookies", which featured rapper Giriboy. In October 2015, Goo Hara also joined the TV show Shaolin Clenched Fists.
2016–2019: Solo Career and Final Projects
On January 15, 2016, the group Kara officially disbanded. Goo Hara and two other members left DSP Media when their contracts ended. A few days later, Goo Hara signed with KeyEast to continue her solo career. In December 2016, she was featured in Thunder's song, "Sign". In August 2017, she acted in a web film called Sound of a Footstep. In November 2017, she joined the TV show Seoul Mate.
In January 2018, Goo Hara released a song called "On A Good Day" for the drama Jugglers. In April 2018, she hosted the JTBC beauty show My Mad Beauty Diary. In July, she became an honorary ambassador for the 6th Animal Film Festival. In August 2018, Goo Hara debuted as a solo artist in Japan with her song "Wild".
After a break in early 2019, Goo Hara announced in June 2019 that she had signed with Production Ogi. This company helped her continue her activities in Japan. Goo Hara was very popular in Japan when Kara was active there.
Goo Hara's last music release before her passing was the album "Midnight Queen". It came out in September 2019. She also went on a mini-tour in Japan called Hara Zepp Tour 2019: Hello. The tour had four concerts in November 2019, ending on the 19th. Her Japanese fans really enjoyed her performances.
On January 12, 2020, a music video for "Hello" was released after her passing. This song was from her "Midnight Queen" album. Goo Hara wrote the lyrics to thank her fans. The video showed her in Tokyo, a city she loved. A photobook with her pictures was also released on April 6, 2020, to remember her.
Death and Commemoration
On November 24, 2019, Goo Hara was found at her home in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam, by her manager.
Her funeral was held privately for her family and close friends. A separate memorial service for fans took place on November 25–26 in Gangnam. On November 27, Goo Hara's body was cremated. Her remains are at the Skycastle Memorial Park in Bundang, Gyeonggi-do.
Legacy
Fundraiser for Single Parent Families
On the second anniversary of Goo Hara's passing in 2021, her older brother, Goo Ho-in, announced a special event. He decided to auction 10 oil paintings that Goo Hara had created. Part of the money raised from the auction was donated to Florence, a Japanese non-profit organization. This organization helps single-parent families.
