Early Life and Training
Heo Young-ji went to the School of Performing Arts Seoul. Before joining Kara, she trained at different entertainment companies. She was a trainee at Core Contents Media and later at KeyEast. Finally, she joined DSP Media, where she prepared to become a K-pop idol.
Joining Kara
In May 2014, two members left the group Kara. To find a new member, DSP Media created a TV show called Kara Project. Seven trainees competed to join the group. Heo Young-ji was one of them. Even though she had a leg injury and missed some performances, she was very popular with viewers.
On July 1, 2014, Heo Young-ji was announced as the winner. She received the highest score and became the newest member of Kara. She promised to work very hard for the group.
TV Shows and Solo Music

Heo Young-ji also started acting. In May 2016, she had a role in the TV drama Another Miss Oh. She also hosted and appeared on many other TV programs.
In December 2016, she was introduced as a special "hidden member" of a new co-ed (mixed-gender) group called K.A.R.D. She promoted their first song, "OH NA NA."
