Big Events of 1835
- January 1 – A man named Ole Pedersen Hoiland broke into the Bank of Norway and stole a large amount of money.
- January 30 – There was an unsuccessful attack on President Andrew Jackson at the United States Capitol. This was the first time someone tried to attack a U.S. President.
- February 20 – The city of Concepción, Chile was badly damaged by a strong earthquake.
- March 2 – Ferdinand became the new Emperor of Austria.
- April 18 – Lord Melbourne became the new Prime Minister of Britain.
- May 5 – In Belgium, the first railway line in continental Europe opened. It connected the cities of Brussels and Mechelen.
