- 42 BC – In a big battle called the Battle of Philippi, Mark Antony and Octavian defeated an army led by Brutus. This battle ended a civil war.
- 425 – At just six years old, Valentinian III became the Roman emperor.
- 1086 – During the Reconquista in Spain, the Almoravids won a battle against the Castilians at the Battle of Sagrajas.
- 1157 – The Battle of Grathe Heath brought an end to the Danish Civil War.
- 1295 – Scotland and France signed their first agreement for the Auld Alliance. This alliance was formed to protect each other against England.
Later History (1601–1900)
- 1641 – Irish leaders in Ulster tried to take over Dublin Castle. This was the main place where England governed Ireland.
- 1642 – The Battle of Edgehill was the first major battle of the English Civil War.
- 1666 – A very strong tornado, with winds over 213 miles per hour, hit Lincolnshire, England. It was one of the strongest tornadoes ever recorded there.
- 1707 – The very first Parliament of the Kingdom of Great Britain met for the first time.
- 1798 – Forces led by Ali Pasha defeated the French army and captured the town of Preveza.
- 1812 – General Claude François de Malet started a secret plan to overthrow Napoleon. He spread a false rumor that Napoleon had died during his campaign in Russia.
