Kim Mellius Flyvholm Larsen (born October 23, 1945 – died September 30, 2018) was a famous Danish rock and pop musician. He was one of the biggest music stars in Scandinavia, selling over 5 million albums. Kim Larsen was known for his unique voice and songs that often spoke about being different and not always following the crowd.

Music Journey

Kim Larsen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. He loved music and was inspired by bands like The Beatles and early rock and roll. He started his career by writing songs and playing the guitar.

Forming Gasolin'

In 1969, Kim Larsen met Franz Beckerlee and Wili Jønsson. Together, they formed a band called Gasolin'. Later, Søren Berlev joined as the drummer. Gasolin' quickly became one of the most successful rock bands in Denmark. They made many popular songs before the band stopped playing together in the late 1970s.

Solo Career and New York

After Gasolin', Kim Larsen started making music on his own. In 1979, he took part in the Danish competition for the Eurovision Song Contest with his song "Ud i det blå" (which means "Out into the blue"). He finished third in the competition.

Around 1980, Kim Larsen moved to New York City in the United States. He released two albums there, hoping to become famous in America. However, he didn't have much success and soon returned to Denmark.

Back in Denmark, Kim Larsen released several successful solo albums in the 1980s. His album Midt om natten (meaning In the Middle of the Night) was a huge hit in 1983. This album also became the soundtrack for a movie with the same name.

New Bands

In 1983, Kim Larsen formed a new band called Kim Larsen & Bellami. They released four albums together before the band changed its members and eventually broke up in 1992. After that, he released another solo album called Hvem kan sige nej til en engel (meaning "Who Can Say No to an Angel").

In the mid-1990s, he started his last band, Kim Larsen & Kjukken. This band was based in Odense, a city in Denmark.

Later Life and Legacy

Kim Larsen passed away from prostate cancer at his home in Odense on September 30, 2018. He was a beloved musician in Denmark.

A week after his death, a large memorial concert was held in Copenhagen. About 35,000 people came to remember him. Many famous Danish musicians, like Magtens Korridorer and Tim Christensen, performed cover versions of Kim Larsen's songs at the concert. This showed how much he was loved and how his music had touched many people.
