Sarah Jane Hyland (born November 24, 1990) is an American actress. She grew up in Manhattan, New York. Before becoming famous, she went to a special school for performing arts. Sarah had small roles in early films like Annie.
She is best known for playing Haley Dunphy in the popular TV show Modern Family. This show ran from 2009 to 2020. For her work on Modern Family, she was nominated for a special award. From 2022 to 2023, Sarah also hosted Love Island USA. She has also appeared in several other movies and on Broadway stages.

Sarah Jane Hyland was born in East Village, New York in Manhattan, New York. Her birthday is November 24, 1990. Her parents, Melissa Canaday and Edward James Hyland, are also actors. She has a brother named Ian Hyland, who is also an actor.
Sarah went to the Professional Performing Arts School in Manhattan. This school helps young people learn how to act, sing, and dance.
Acting Career
Sarah Hyland started acting when she was very young. Her first role was in the film Private Parts in 1997. She then played Molly in the TV movie Annie in 1999. She also appeared in the TV show Lipstick Jungle.
Starring in Modern Family
From 2009 to 2020, Sarah Hyland played Haley Dunphy on the ABC sitcom Modern Family. This was a very popular show about a funny family. Sarah and the other actors on the show won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series four times. They won this award every year from 2011 to 2014.
Other Film and TV Roles
In 2011, Sarah starred in the Disney Channel Original Movie Geek Charming. She also appeared in the movie Struck by Lightning in 2012. Sarah was part of a Nintendo 3DS advertisement campaign in 2012.
She has been in other films like Scary Movie 5 (2013) and Vampire Academy (2014). In 2016, she was in XOXO. She also appeared in the TV movie Dirty Dancing in 2017. In 2019, she starred in The Wedding Year.
Hosting and Music
Sarah Hyland co-hosted the Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade in 2014 and 2018. She danced and sang with Jordan Fisher during these shows. She also made guest appearances on other Disney TV specials.
In 2016, Sarah sang cover songs with the band Boyce Avenue. These songs included "Closer" and "Don't Wanna Know". They were released on Boyce Avenue's album Cover Sessions Vol. 4.
In 2019, Sarah sang her first song, "Met At a Party," with Jordan McGraw. She performed it at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards. The song was released on August 9, 2019.
In December 2020, Sarah appeared in a Taco Bell commercial. In October 2021, she became a creative director for Sourse, a company that makes chocolate-infused vitamins.

Personal Life
Relationships
Sarah Hyland dated her Geek Charming co-star Matt Prokop for four years. They met in 2010. Their relationship ended in 2014.
From 2015 to 2017, Sarah dated her co-star Dominic Sherwood.
In 2017, Sarah started a relationship with Wells Adams. He is a radio personality and was on TV shows like The Bachelorette. They got engaged in July 2019. They planned to get married in May 2020, but they had to postpone their wedding several times because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Sarah and Wells were married at a California vineyard on August 20, 2022. Many of her Modern Family co-stars attended the wedding.
Health Challenges
Sarah Hyland was diagnosed with a kidney condition when she was a child. She received a kidney transplant from her father in April 2012. After a few years, that kidney stopped working well. She then received a second kidney transplant in September 2017. This kidney was donated by her younger brother, Ian.
Sarah takes special medicines every day to help her body accept the donated kidney. Because of her health, she sometimes has trouble keeping her weight up and building muscle. She has had to rest in bed many times. Even when she was very tired, she sometimes continued to film Modern Family. Sarah has said that she was so tired during some filming days that she slept whenever she was not acting in her scenes.
Since she was born, Sarah has had 16 surgeries to help her health. These include many kidney surgeries. She also had a surgery to treat a condition called endometriosis.
