Her Acting Career

Sarah Hyland started acting when she was very young. Her first role was in the movie Private Parts in 1997. She then played Molly in the TV movie Annie in 1999. She also appeared in the TV show Lipstick Jungle. Sarah even performed on Broadway in a musical called Grey Gardens in 2006.

From 2009 to 2020, Sarah played Haley Dunphy on the popular TV show Modern Family. This role made her very well-known. She and the other actors on the show won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series four times in a row, from 2011 to 2014. This award is given to the best group of actors in a comedy show.

In 2011, Sarah starred in the Disney Channel Original Movie Geek Charming. She also appeared in the movie Struck by Lightning in 2012. She was part of a Nintendo 3DS ad campaign too.

Sarah has also been involved in many musical and theater projects. She performed in a concert called Kerrigan-Lowdermilk Live in 2013. She also acted in a stage version of Hair at the Hollywood Bowl in 2014.

In 2014 and 2018, Sarah helped host the Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade. She even danced and sang with Jordan Fisher during these events. She also made special appearances on The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60 (2016) and Mickey's 90th Spectacular (2018).

From 2015 to 2017, Sarah dated her co-star Dominic Sherwood, who was in Shadowhunters and Vampire Academy with her.

In 2017, Sarah started dating Wells Adams. He is a radio personality and was on TV shows like The Bachelorette. They got engaged in July 2019. They planned to get married in May 2020, but they had to postpone their wedding many times because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Sarah and Wells finally got married on August 20, 2022, at a vineyard in California. Many of her Modern Family co-stars attended their wedding.

Health

Sarah Hyland was diagnosed with a kidney condition called kidney dysplasia when she was a child. This means her kidneys did not develop properly. She received a kidney transplant from her father in April 2012. However, that kidney stopped working after a few years.

In September 2017, she received a second kidney transplant, this time from her younger brother, Ian. Sarah has to take special medicines every day to make sure her body does not reject the donated kidney. These medicines can sometimes make it hard for her to keep her weight up and can make her very tired. She has had to rest a lot, sometimes even while filming Modern Family. Sarah has said that she was so tired during some filming days that she doesn't remember shooting certain scenes.

Since she was born, Sarah has had 16 surgeries to help with her health. These include many kidney surgeries and other procedures to treat conditions like endometriosis.
