- In 455, Emperor Avitus entered Rome with his army. This helped him gain more power.
- The Kingdom of Dublin was taken over by Norman invaders in 1170.
- During the Livonian Crusade in 1217, two important leaders, Lembitu from Estonia and Kaupo the Accursed from Livonia, were killed in the Battle of St. Matthew's Day.
