Audrey Faith McGraw (born September 21, 1967), known as Faith Hill, is an American country singer, songwriter, and actress. She is one of the most successful country music artists ever. Faith Hill has sold almost 50 million albums around the world.

Her first two albums, Take Me as I Am (1993) and It Matters to Me (1995), were very popular. They quickly made her a top country music star. Later, she became even more famous with her albums Faith (1998) and Breathe (1999).

Faith included her first international hit song, "This Kiss". Her album Breathe became one of the best-selling country albums of all time. It featured big hit songs like "Breathe" and "The Way You Love Me". Breathe sold millions of copies worldwide and won three Grammy Awards.

In 2001, Faith Hill sang "There You'll Be" for the movie Pearl Harbor. This song also became a big international hit. It was nominated for an Academy Award and is her best-selling song in Europe.

Her next albums, Cry (2002) and Fireflies (2005), were also very successful. "Cry" won another Grammy Award for Faith. Fireflies included the popular songs "Mississippi Girl" and "Like We Never Loved at All", which also won Grammys.

Faith Hill has won many awards, including five Grammy Awards. She also has 15 Academy of Country Music Awards and six American Music Awards. Her Soul2Soul II Tour 2006 with her husband, Tim McGraw, was the highest-earning country music tour ever. In 2019, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Faith Hill has been married to singer Tim McGraw since 1996, and they have sung many songs together.

Early Life and Starting Her Career

Faith Hill was born in Ridgeland, Mississippi, in the U.S. She was adopted as a baby and named Audrey Faith Perry. She grew up in a nearby town called Star. Her adoptive parents, Edna and Ted Perry, raised her in a Christian home.

Faith showed her singing talent early on. She first performed in public at age seven. In 1976, just before her ninth birthday, she saw Elvis Presley in concert. This experience made a deep impression on her. As a young person, Faith often sang in churches. At 17, she started a band that played at local rodeos. She finished high school in 1986 and briefly attended college. She even sang for prisoners at the Hinds County Jail, often singing "Amazing Grace."

At 19, she left college and moved to Nashville. Her dream was to become a country singer. When she first arrived in Nashville, she tried out to be a backup singer for Reba McEntire but did not get the job.

After working different jobs, like selling T-shirts, Faith became a secretary at a music company. She also worked at a McDonald's restaurant, which she did not like. She said, "Fries, burgers, cash register – I did it all, I hated it."

In 1988, she married Daniel Hill, who worked in music publishing.

One day, a co-worker heard Faith singing to herself. Soon, the head of her music company encouraged her to sing demo songs for them. She also sang backup for songwriter Gary Burr at Nashville's Bluebird Café. During one of these shows, Martha Sharp from Warner Bros. Records heard her. She was impressed and began the process of signing Faith to a record deal.

Faith and Daniel Hill divorced in 1994, shortly after her first album was released.

Music Career Highlights

Becoming a Country Star (1993–1997)

Faith Hill's first album, Take Me as I Am, came out in 1993. It sold very well, especially because of the hit song "Wild One". Faith became the first female country singer in 30 years to have a number one song on Billboard's country charts for four weeks in a row. Her song "Piece of My Heart" also reached the top of the country charts in 1994. The album sold 3 million copies.

Recording Faith's second album was delayed because she had surgery on her vocal cords. It Matters to Me was finally released in 1995 and was another big success. The main song, "It Matters to Me," became her third number-one country hit. Several other songs from the album also reached the top 10. More than 3 million copies of this album were sold.

In spring 1996, Faith Hill started a tour with country singer Tim McGraw. At that time, Faith was engaged to someone else, and Tim had also recently ended an engagement. Tim and Faith quickly fell in love and started dating. After finding out Faith was pregnant, they got married on October 6, 1996. They have three daughters: Gracie Katherine (born 1997), Maggie Elizabeth (born 1998), and Audrey Caroline (born 2001). Since their marriage, Faith and Tim try not to be apart for more than three days.

After It Matters to Me, Faith took a three-year break from recording. She wanted to rest from touring and start a family with Tim. During her break, she sang her first duet with Tim, "It's Your Love". This song was number one for six weeks and won awards. Faith has said that when they sing it together, it feels like no one else is watching.

Becoming a Pop Star (1998–2003)

Faith Hill returned to music in 1998 with her third album, Faith. This album showed her moving towards a more pop sound, but it still had country roots. "This Kiss" became a number one country hit and also reached number seven on the pop charts. Over six million copies of the album were sold. It also had other hits, including another duet with Tim McGraw, "Just To Hear You Say That You Love Me."

To follow up this success, Faith released Breathe in November 1999. It went straight to number one on both the country and all-genre music charts. The album's main song, "Breathe", reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 pop chart. "The Way You Love Me" also reached the top 10. Breathe has sold almost 10 million copies worldwide.

The year 2000 was very busy for Faith Hill. She went on a successful tour with her husband, called the Soul2Soul Tour. She also appeared on TV shows and specials. She signed a deal with CoverGirl makeup. Faith performed at the Academy Awards and the Grammy Awards. She sang the national anthem at Super Bowl XXXIV.

In 2000, Faith also recorded "Where Are You Christmas" for the movie Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This song also appeared on pop and country charts. Some people in country music wondered if she was leaving her country roots for pop music. But Faith won the CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Award. In her speech, she said, "I love this business, and I love this industry... and my heart is here."

In 2001, Faith recorded "There You'll Be" for the Pearl Harbor movie. This song is one of her most praised songs. Because it was so popular around the world, a collection album called There You'll Be: The Best of Faith Hill was released internationally. "There You'll Be" was nominated for a Grammy Award and an Academy Award in 2002.

In 2002, Faith released her fifth album, Cry. This album showed her moving even more into pop music. It debuted at number one on Billboard's pop and country album charts. The album's songs were played more on international and adult contemporary radio stations than country ones. Cry won a Grammy Award and has sold over 3.7 million copies worldwide. A song from the album, "Baby You Belong," was used in the movie Lilo & Stitch.

On February 1, 2009, Faith performed "America the Beautiful" before Super Bowl XLIII. In 2010, she performed "The Winner Takes It All" to celebrate ABBA joining the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She also sang "The Long & Winding Road" as a tribute to Paul McCartney at the White House.

After Hurricane Katrina, Faith and her husband, Tim McGraw, helped bring supplies to Gulfport, Mississippi. They also held charity concerts to help people who lost their homes. Later, they started the Neighbor's Keeper Foundation. This foundation helps community charities provide basic services during natural disasters or difficult times.
