The Pretenders are a famous rock band that started in March 1978. They formed in Hereford, England, and Akron, Ohio, United States. This group is known for its rock, new wave, and punk rock sounds.
The band's story began with four main members. These were Chrissie Hynde (who sings and plays guitar), James Honeyman-Scott (lead guitar), Pete Farndon (bass guitar), and Martin Chambers (drums). Chrissie Hynde was the one who started the band. She also wrote most of their songs.
The Band's Journey
The Pretenders have been making music for a long time. They started in the late 1970s. Their unique sound quickly made them popular. They combined different styles of music. This included the energy of punk rock. They also had the catchy tunes of new wave.
Changes in the Band
Over the years, the band's members have changed a lot. After some time, James Honeyman-Scott and Pete Farndon were no longer with the band. This meant new musicians joined The Pretenders. Chrissie Hynde has been the only member who has stayed with the band since the very beginning. Martin Chambers, the original drummer, also returned to the group after some time away.
Still Making Music!
In 2014, Chrissie Hynde worked on her own music for a while. The Pretenders took a break as a band between 2012 and 2016. But they are now back together and active! They released a new album in 2016. They also went on tour that year. The Pretenders continue to perform and share their music with fans around the world.
