These include The Pretenders, Paul McCartney, Tina Turner, and Lionel Richie. He has also worked with Sade and Mick Jagger. His drumming has added rhythm to many popular songs.
Early Life and Family
Blair grew up in a big family. He is the youngest of 13 children! He had 10 older brothers and 3 older sisters. His parents were Kelly Cunningham Sr. and Ernestine Cunningham. Music was a big part of his family. His oldest brother, Kelly Cunningham Jr., taught all the brothers how to play drums. Kelly Jr. was Blair's biggest inspiration.
Blair's brother, Carl Cunningham, was also a drummer. Carl played with a famous group called the Bar-Kays. They were part of the Stax Records music label. Sadly, Carl passed away in a plane accident in December 1967. This happened when Blair was only 10 years old.
A Career in Music
Blair Cunningham started his music career in the 1970s. He has played drums for a huge number of artists. Some of these include Denise LaSalle and Robert Johnson. He also played with the Detroit Emeralds and Frederick Knight.
Later, Blair joined bands like Echo & the Bunnymen and Haircut One Hundred. He also played with John Foxx. One of his most famous roles was as the drummer for The Pretenders. He has also toured and recorded with Alison Moyet and Indigo Girls.
Blair's drumming can be heard on many albums. He played on "All Things Are Nice" and "My Baby" from Blancmange's album Mange Tout. He also played drums for Roxy Music and Andy Taylor. His long career shows how much he loves music. He continues to play drums today.
