Jacob Leon "Jack" Rubenstein (born March 25, 1911 – died January 3, 1967), known as Jack Ruby, was an American nightclub owner. He became a well-known figure in American history because of a major event in 1963. On November 24, 1963, Ruby shot and killed Lee Harvey Oswald. Oswald was being held by the police because he was accused of killing U.S. President John F. Kennedy two days earlier.
Ruby was found guilty of killing Oswald, but this decision was later cancelled. He remained in prison while waiting for a new trial. However, a new trial never happened. Jack Ruby died on January 3, 1967, at the age of 55, in Dallas, Texas. He passed away from lung cancer and another serious health problem.

The Shooting of Lee Harvey Oswald
On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was killed in Dallas, Texas. A man named Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested and accused of this crime. Two days later, on November 24, 1963, Oswald was being moved by the police. As he was being moved, Jack Ruby stepped out of a crowd and shot Oswald. This shocking event happened on live television.
Trial and Later Life
After shooting Oswald, Jack Ruby was arrested. He was later found guilty of killing Oswald. He was sentenced to death. However, his lawyers appealed this decision. The court agreed that there were problems with his first trial. So, his conviction was cancelled, and he was supposed to have a new trial.
While waiting for this new trial, Jack Ruby remained in prison. He became ill and died in 1967. His death meant that the new trial never took place.
His Final Resting Place
Jack Ruby is buried in Westlawn Cemetery in Norridge, Illinois.
