Battles and Sieges
- March 14 – The Battle of Ivry took place in France. In this battle, Henry IV of France once again defeated the forces of the Catholic League. The Catholic League was a group that opposed Henry IV, led by the Duc de Mayenne.
- May to August – After his victory, Henry IV tried to take over Paris by surrounding it in a siege. However, he was not successful. The Duke of Parma arrived with a Spanish army, forcing Henry to stop his attack on the city.

- May 17 – Anne of Denmark was crowned as the queen of Scotland. This was an important event for the Scottish kingdom.
Mystery of Roanoke
- August 18 – John White, who was the governor of the Roanoke Colony, returned to the settlement after getting supplies from England. He found the colony completely empty and deserted, which became a famous mystery in history.
New Popes
- September 15 – Pope Urban VII became the new leader of the Catholic Church, following Pope Sixtus V.
- December 5 – Later in the same year, Pope Gregory XIV took over as pope after Urban VII.
