Guillermo González Camarena (born February 17, 1917 – died April 18, 1965) was a brilliant Mexican electrical engineer. He is best known for inventing a special color-wheel system for color television. His amazing work changed how we watch TV today.

Early Life and Education

Guillermo González Camarena was born in Guadalajara, Mexico. This was on February 17, 1917. His parents were from a town called Arandas, Jalisco. He was the youngest of seven children in his family. One of his brothers, Jorge González Camarena, became a very famous Mexican mural painter.

Guillermo studied hard and became an electrical engineer. He graduated from the National Polytechnic Institute in Mexico City.

Inventing Color Television

Guillermo González Camarena was a true inventor. He created a special system for color television. This system used a "color-wheel" to show different colors. He called his invention the "Chromoscopic adapter for television equipment." This was a big step forward in how we see images on TV screens.

His Legacy and Impact

Guillermo's invention had a lasting impact. A color television system similar to his was used by NASA. This happened during the Voyager mission in 1979. It helped take amazing pictures and videos of the planet Jupiter.

After his death, people wanted to honor his contributions. In 1995, a group called La Funck Guillermo González Camarena was created. This is also known as The Guillermo González Camarena Foundation. It helps creative and talented inventors in Mexico.

Around the same time, the IPN started building something new. They began the Centro de Propiedad Intelectual "Guillermo González Camarena". This center focuses on intellectual property, which means protecting new ideas and inventions.

His Passing

Guillermo González Camarena passed away at the age of 48. This happened in a car crash in Puebla on April 18, 1965. He was returning from checking on a television transmitter in Las Lajas, Veracruz.
