Divock Okoth Origi (born on 18 April 1995) is a Belgian professional footballer. He plays as a striker. He was most recently with the AC Milan first team. As of July 2024, he trains with and is part of the Milan Futuro squad.
Origi started his football journey at Lille in France. He scored in his very first professional game in 2013. About a year and a half later, Liverpool, a big club from England, bought him for £10 million. They loaned him back to Lille for one season.
After facing some injuries at Liverpool and spending a year on loan at VfL Wolfsburg in Germany, Origi became a key player for Liverpool in the 2018–19 season. He famously scored two goals against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final, helping Liverpool make an amazing comeback. He also scored in the final against Tottenham, which helped Liverpool win the Champions League trophy. The next season, he was part of the team that won the 2019–20 Premier League. This was Liverpool's first league title in 30 years.
Origi first played for the Belgian national team in 2014. He was part of the team that reached the quarter-finals of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. During this tournament, he became the youngest player to score a goal for Belgium in World Cup history.

Early Life and Family
Divock Origi was born in Ostend, Belgium. He grew up in a town called Houthalen-Oost. Football runs in his family! His father, Mike Origi, was also a professional footballer. He played for several Belgian clubs and the Kenya national team.
Divock's uncles, Austin, Gerald, and Anthony, also played professional football. His cousin, Arnold Origi, is a professional goalkeeper for the Kenyan national team. The Origi family comes from the Luo ethnic group in Kenya. Divock is very good with languages; he speaks Swahili, English, Dutch, and French fluently.
Divock is a Christian. He has shared that his faith helps him work hard and stay focused on important things in life. He believes that even mistakes can help you learn and grow.
In 2021, Divock Origi partnered with the University of Liverpool to create the Divock Origi Scholarship. This scholarship helps students who have financial difficulties pay for their university courses. It covers tuition fees and also provides money for living costs. This program started by helping two students and planned to help more in the future.
Club Career Highlights
Starting Out in Football
Origi began his football journey at the youth academy of K.R.C. Genk in Belgium. He spent nine years there, learning and improving his skills. In May 2010, when he was 15, he joined Lille in France. He chose Lille even though Manchester United, a famous English club, also wanted to sign him.
Playing for Lille
On 24 January 2013, Origi was on the bench for Lille in a French Cup match. Just nine days later, he made his first appearance for Lille's senior team. He came on as a substitute and scored a goal, helping his team come back from being 1–0 down against Troyes.
Joining Liverpool
On 29 July 2014, Premier League club Liverpool announced they had signed Origi. The transfer cost £10 million, and he signed a five-year contract. However, he was immediately loaned back to Lille for the 2014–15 season.
Loan Spell at Lille
In his first game back with Lille, Origi scored his first goal of the new season from a penalty kick. This goal secured a 1–0 win for his team against Caen. On 15 March 2015, Origi scored three goals, known as a hat-trick, for Lille in a 3–0 league win against Rennes.
Returning to Liverpool

On 11 July 2015, Origi joined Liverpool's squad for their pre-season tour. In his first friendly game for Liverpool, he scored a goal in a 4–0 win against Thai All-Stars.
His first official game for Liverpool was on 12 September. He came on as a substitute in a match against rivals Manchester United. Origi scored his first official goals for Liverpool on 2 December, scoring a hat-trick in a 6–1 win against Southampton in the League Cup. A few days later, he scored his first Premier League goal, an equalizer in a 2–2 draw against West Bromwich Albion. On 14 February, he scored his second league goal against Aston Villa in a 6–0 victory. This goal was scored only 27 seconds after he came on as a substitute, making it the fastest goal by a substitute that season.
On 7 April 2016, Liverpool's manager, Jürgen Klopp, chose Origi to start ahead of the team's main striker in a Europa League quarter-final match against Borussia Dortmund. Origi scored an important away goal in a 1–1 draw. Three days later, he scored two goals in a 4–1 win over Stoke City.
On 20 April 2016, Origi suffered a serious ankle injury during a game against Everton. This was caused by a foul tackle from an Everton player.
During the 2016–17 season, Origi often came on as a substitute or played in cup games. He scored his first goal of the season in an EFL Cup win against Burton Albion. On 26 November, he scored his first Premier League goal of the season against Sunderland. On 1 April 2017, he scored Liverpool's third goal in a 3–1 win against rivals Everton. On 14 May, he scored Liverpool's fourth goal in a 4–0 win against West Ham United, helping the team get closer to qualifying for the Champions League.
Loan to VfL Wolfsburg
On 31 August 2017, Origi joined German club VfL Wolfsburg on a loan for the season. He scored his first goal for them against Werder Bremen on 19 September. He scored six goals in total during his time at Wolfsburg.
Return to Liverpool and Big Moments
On 2 December 2018, Origi scored his first goal of the season in a Merseyside derby match against city rivals Everton. Liverpool won the game 1–0, with Origi scoring in the very last minute after coming on as a substitute. On 4 May 2019, he scored another last-minute goal against Newcastle in a 3–2 victory. This kept Liverpool's hopes alive for winning their first Premier League title.
On 7 May 2019, Origi scored for the first time in the Champions League. He scored two goals in the semi-final second leg against Barcelona. His final goal completed Liverpool's incredible comeback from being three goals down in the first game. On 1 June 2019, he scored Liverpool's second goal in a 2–0 win over Tottenham in the 2019 UEFA Champions League final. This was his first major trophy with the club. He became only the second Belgian player to score in a Champions League final.
On 10 July 2019, Origi signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool. On 30 October, he scored two goals, including a last-minute bicycle kick, in an EFL Cup match against Arsenal. Liverpool eventually won the game on penalties after a thrilling 5–5 draw. On 4 December, he scored two more goals as Liverpool beat rival Everton 5–2 in the Merseyside derby. This win extended Liverpool's unbeaten run in the league to 32 matches, a new club record.
During the 2020–21 season, Origi played seventeen times and scored one goal for Liverpool. In the 2021–22 season, he scored a special scorpion kick goal in an EFL Cup win against Preston North End. On 7 December 2021, he scored Liverpool's winning goal in a 2–1 away win against AC Milan. This made Liverpool the first English club to win all six Champions League group games.
In June 2022, Liverpool announced that Origi would leave the club when his contract ended.
Moving to AC Milan

On 5 July 2022, Origi signed a four-year contract with Serie A club AC Milan in Italy.
Loan to Nottingham Forest
On 1 September 2023, Origi joined Premier League club Nottingham Forest on a loan for the season. On 7 February 2024, he scored his first goal for Forest in a 1–1 draw against Bristol City in the 2023–24 FA Cup. His team went on to win that match on penalties.
Return to AC Milan
By July 2024, Origi returned to AC Milan. However, he is now playing for their youth team, Milan Futuro.
International Career
Origi has played for various Belgian youth national teams, including the under-15, under-16, under-17, under-19, and under-21 teams. He scored ten goals for the under-19 team.
The Football Kenya Federation wanted Origi to play for the Kenya senior national team. However, on 13 May 2014, the Belgium senior national team manager announced that Origi would be part of Belgium's squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Origi came on as a substitute in Belgium's first game of the 2014 World Cup against Algeria. In Belgium's second match, he scored his first goal for the senior national team in the 88th minute of a 1–0 win over Russia. This goal helped Belgium qualify for the knockout stage. At 19 years, two months, and four days old, he became the youngest goalscorer of the tournament at that time. He also became the youngest goalscorer in Belgian World Cup history. For his great performances, he was named the Young Talent of the 2014 Belgian Sportsman of the Year awards.
Origi scored one goal during Belgium's successful UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying campaign. He was part of the squad for the final tournament but did not play in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
