The 2019 UEFA Super Cup was an exciting football match. It was the 44th time this yearly competition, called the UEFA Super Cup, took place. UEFA organizes this match every year.
The Super Cup brings together the winners of Europe's two biggest club football competitions. These are the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League. In 2019, two English teams played against each other. Liverpool had won the 2018–19 UEFA Champions League. Chelsea had won the 2018–19 UEFA Europa League.
The game was played at the Vodafone Park in Istanbul, Turkey, on August 14, 2019. This was a special match because it was the first time two English teams played in the UEFA Super Cup. It was also the eighth time that two teams from the same country competed. For the first time ever, the video assistant referee (VAR) system was used in the UEFA Super Cup. This system helps referees make correct decisions.
