The 2019 UEFA Champions League Final was the last match of the 2018–19 UEFA Champions League season. The UEFA Champions League is Europe's biggest club football tournament. It used to be called the European Champion Clubs' Cup.
This exciting final was played on June 1, 2019, at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium in Madrid, Spain. Two English teams, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, competed for the trophy. It was Tottenham's very first time in a European Cup final. For Liverpool, it was their ninth final and their second one in a row. They had lost to Real Madrid in the 2018 final.
Liverpool won the match 2–0. Mohamed Salah scored an early penalty goal just 106 seconds into the game. Later, substitute Divock Origi scored in the 87th minute. This victory marked Liverpool's sixth European Cup win. It was their first time winning the trophy since 2005.
Because they won, Liverpool played against Chelsea in the 2019 UEFA Super Cup. Chelsea had won the 2018–19 UEFA Europa League. Liverpool also earned a spot in the group stage of the next Champions League season, the 2019–20 UEFA Champions League.
Before the final, UEFA made some changes to the rules. They allowed teams to make a fourth substitution if the game went into extra time. Also, the number of players allowed on the substitutes' bench increased from 7 to 12. The game's kick-off time was also changed to 9:00 PM CEST.
