Wanda Metropolitano facts for kids
The Metropolitano Stadium (which in Spanish is Estadio Metropolitano), is a very cool sports stadium in Madrid, Spain. Lots of people also call it Wanda Metropolitano because of a sponsorship deal.
This stadium is the home ground for the famous football team, Atlético Madrid. They started playing their matches here in the 2017–18 season. The stadium is located in the Rosas area, which is part of the San Blas-Canillejas district in Madrid. It's a huge place, with enough seats for 67,829 fans!
The stadium was first built between 1990 and 1993 and opened its doors in 1994. It was closed for a while in 2004. Then, it was rebuilt and reopened in 2017, becoming the new home for Atlético Madrid. It took the place of their old stadium, the Vicente Calderón Stadium. The very first football match played here was on September 18, 2017. It was a 2017-18 La Liga game between Atlético Madrid and Málaga CF.
A really big event happened at Wanda Metropolitano on June 1, 2019. The stadium hosted the 2019 UEFA Champions League Final. This is one of the most important football matches in Europe!
