Serge Aurier played for different youth teams before joining Lens in France. This is where his professional football career began. He was only thirteen when he joined Lens, which meant leaving his friends and family.

He played for the club's reserve team and even became their captain. In June 2009, Aurier signed his first professional contract with Lens.

Aurier played his first professional game for Lens on 22 December 2009. They won 1–0 against Saint-Étienne. He played five games in his first season.

In his second season, Aurier became a regular player for the first team. He played 26 games in the 2010–11 season. However, Lens was relegated to Ligue 2 that year. Before this, Aurier had extended his contract with the club until 2015.

Before the 2011–12 season, other clubs from England showed interest in him. But Aurier decided to stay in France. He played 16 games for Lens in the first half of that season.

Moving to Toulouse

On 26 January 2012, Aurier left Lens and joined Toulouse. He signed a four-and-a-half-year contract. The transfer fee was about €1.5 million.

He played his first game for Toulouse just two days later. Toulouse won 2–1 against Caen. Aurier scored his first goal for Toulouse on 1 April 2012, in a game they lost 2–1 against Lille. He played ten games in his first half-season at Toulouse.

In the 2012–13 season, Aurier played 28 games and scored one goal. He also had some injuries during this time.

Before the 2013–14 season, Aurier signed a new contract with Toulouse until 2018. He played a more attacking role in the team. He scored his first goal of the season on 2 November 2013. He scored six goals in 34 games that season. His great performance led to him being nominated for the Ligue 1 Player of the Year award.

After playing well in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, other clubs wanted to sign Aurier. He even said that his dream was to play for Arsenal in the Premier League.

Time at Paris Saint-Germain

On 23 July 2014, Aurier joined Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on a one-year loan. PSG had the option to buy him permanently. He joined to replace Christophe Jallet as the right-back. Aurier was confident he would get to play, even with competition from Gregory van der Wiel.

Aurier made his PSG debut on 16 August 2014. He came on as a substitute in a 2–0 win against Bastia. He scored his first goal for PSG in a cup game, a 3–1 win over Ajaccio. In the first part of the season, he faced some injuries and was away for international games.

On 29 April 2015, PSG made Aurier's move permanent. He signed a four-year contract. His first game after signing permanently was against Lyon, where he scored and helped PSG win 2–0. He scored his first league goal for PSG on 26 September 2015. He also scored in a Champions League game against Shakhtar Donetsk.

In February 2016, Aurier was suspended by PSG for some comments he made online. He had to train with the reserve team for a while.

Playing for Tottenham Hotspur

On 31 August 2017, Aurier joined Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur for about £23 million. He played his first game on 13 September in a 3–1 win against Borussia Dortmund. Ten days later, he played his first league game for Tottenham against West Ham United. He was sent off in that game, but Tottenham still won 3–2.

His first goal for Tottenham was on 13 December 2017, in a 2–0 win against Brighton & Hove Albion. He competed with Kieran Trippier for the right-back position.

In his second season, he also competed with Kyle Walker-Peters. On 4 January 2019, he scored two goals in an FA Cup game against Tranmere Rovers, which Tottenham won 7–0. He had some injuries that season, so he only played 17 games in total.

Aurier started the 2019–20 season well. On 14 September, he helped Tottenham win 4–0 against Crystal Palace by assisting a goal. Two weeks later, he was sent off in a game against Southampton.

In the 2020–21 season, Aurier scored his first goal on 4 October 2020 against Manchester United. Tottenham won that game 6–1, which was a big victory for them. On 31 August 2021, he left Tottenham after his contract was ended early.

Moving to Villarreal

On 4 October 2021, the Spanish club Villarreal signed Aurier. He joined them until the end of the 2021–22 season, with a chance to extend his contract. He made his debut on 24 October in a 2–1 loss against Athletic Bilbao. He had some injuries and was often a second-choice player.

Aurier scored his first goal for Ivory Coast on 11 January 2017, in a friendly game against Uganda. He became the captain of the national team in June 2017. He was also captain at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, but an injury stopped him from playing further in the tournament.

Aurier led the team as captain at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. In one game, he even played as a goalkeeper for a few seconds when their main goalkeeper was injured. The team was later knocked out of the tournament. He also captained the team to victory in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Life Outside Football

Serge Aurier was born in Ouragahio, Ivory Coast. He moved to France when he was young because his parents wanted a better life for their children. He loved football from a young age. His younger brother, Christopher, also played football for Lens. Sadly, Christopher passed away in July 2020.

In 2016, Aurier had a legal issue in Paris. This caused him to miss a UEFA Champions League match in London in November 2016 because his travel permission to the UK was temporarily changed. However, he was allowed to move to Tottenham in 2017 after the situation was resolved.
