Club Career Highlights

Starting at São Paulo FC

Lucas Moura joined São Paulo FC in 2005. Before that, he played for youth teams like Clube Atlético Juventus and Corinthians. When he was younger, people called him Marcelinho. This was because he played at a football school named after a famous player, and he looked a bit like him.

He quickly became a promising young player. In 2010, Lucas Moura made his first team debut for São Paulo. He scored 4 goals and made 4 assists in 25 games. In the same year, he decided he wanted to be known by his real name, Lucas, to "make his own history in football." In 2011, he scored 9 goals and made 4 assists in 28 league games. Overall, he scored 13 goals and made 8 assists that year.

On August 8, 2012, Paris Saint-Germain announced that Lucas Moura would join them in January 2013. This was a very expensive transfer for the club. The fee was reported to be around €45 million (about £38 million). He wore the number 29 shirt for the rest of that season.

On January 11, 2013, Lucas Moura played his first game for PSG. It was a 0–0 draw against AC Ajaccio. Time at Tottenham Hotspur

On January 31, 2018, Lucas Moura signed a contract with Tottenham Hotspur until 2023. The transfer fee was around £25 million. He scored his first Champions League goal for Spurs against PSV. In an away game against Barcelona at Camp Nou, Lucas Moura scored a late goal to make it 1–1. This draw helped Tottenham move on to the knockout stage of the Champions League. On April 13, 2019, he scored a hat-trick in a 4–0 win over Huddersfield Town. This was his first hat-trick in Europe and the first ever at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

On May 8, 2019, Lucas Moura scored a second-half hat-trick in Tottenham's 3–2 victory over Ajax. This was in the second leg of their Champions League semi-finals. Spurs came back from being 2–0 down in the game and 3–0 down overall. They won because they scored more away goals. His third goal, scored in the 96th minute, sent his team to a Champions League final for the first time ever. This amazing performance earned him a perfect 10 rating from the French sports newspaper L'Équipe.

On August 9, 2019, Lucas Moura signed a new contract with Tottenham until 2024. He scored his first goal of the 2019–20 season on August 17, 2019. He scored against Manchester City just nineteen seconds after coming on as a substitute.

Returning to São Paulo FC

In August 2023, after three months without a club, Lucas Moura returned to São Paulo Futebol Clube. This marked his comeback after eleven years away. His signing was a big deal in Brazilian football and created a lot of excitement online. His contract was set to last until December.

During his official presentation, he received the number 7 shirt. This was the same number he wore during his first time at the club. The previous player who wore it, Alisson, handed it over to him.

On July 6, 2024, he played his return match. He came on in the second half of a 2–0 loss against Atlético Mineiro at Morumbi. He also took part in an emotional pre-match event with another new high-profile player, James Rodríguez. Even though he created chances in his debut, he gave away a penalty that led to Atlético's second goal. He scored his first goal since returning on August 13, 2024, in a 1–1 draw against Flamengo.

On August 16, 2024, he had a fantastic performance in the Copa do Brasil semifinals. He helped São Paulo win the return match against Corinthians by 2–0 (3–2 overall). During the game, Lucas used his speed and dribbling to get past Corinthians' defense. He created many chances and then scored a header in the 32nd minute. This goal helped São Paulo win the overall score.

On August 24, 2024, he scored the only goal in São Paulo's 2–1 away loss to LDU in the Copa Sudamericana. This was his first game in that competition since 2012.

Lucas played in both games of the Copa do Brasil final against Flamengo. São Paulo won the away game 1–0 and drew the home match 1–1. This meant São Paulo won their first ever Copa do Brasil title. Even though Lucas only played three matches in the tournament, he was praised as one of the most important players.
