Sadio Mané (born April 10, 1992) is a professional footballer from Senegal. He plays as a forward or left winger for the Saudi club Al-Nassr. He also plays for the Senegal national team. Many people consider him one of the best African players ever.
Mané started his professional career at age 19 with the French club Metz. After one season, he moved to the Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg in 2012. There, he won both the league and cup in the 2013–14 season. Later that summer, Mané joined the English club Southampton. In 2015, he set a new Premier League record for the fastest hat-trick, scoring three goals in just 176 seconds!
In 2016, Mané signed with Liverpool. He became the most expensive African player at that time. He formed a strong attacking team with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino. He helped Liverpool reach two UEFA Champions League finals, winning in 2019. He also shared the Premier League Golden Boot as the top goalscorer in the 2018–19 season. Mané then helped Liverpool win the 2019–20 Premier League, ending their 30-year wait for a league title. In 2021, he scored his 100th Premier League goal.
For his country, Mané has scored 46 goals in 113 games for Senegal since 2012. He is Senegal's all-time top goalscorer. He played for Senegal in the 2012 Olympics and several Africa Cup of Nations tournaments. In 2019, Senegal finished second in the Africa Cup of Nations, and Mané was named African Footballer of the Year. In the 2021 final, Mané scored the winning penalty to give Senegal their first Africa Cup of Nations title. He was also named the Player of the Tournament. In 2022, he won the African Player of the Year award again. Mané also played for Senegal in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Early Life and Football Dreams
Sadio Mané was born in Bambali, Senegal. He grew up in a religious family. When he was young, he really wanted to play football, but his father wanted him to focus on his religious studies.
When Mané was seven, his father passed away. At age 15, he left his home village with a friend to go to Dakar. He wanted to chase his dream of becoming a professional footballer. From then on, his family supported him to achieve his goals.
Club Career Highlights
Starting His Journey
In 2009, while playing in M'Bour, scouts noticed Mané. He then joined Génération Foot, a club he helped get promoted to the second division in 2010–11.
Playing in France
In 2011, Mané joined Metz in France. He played his first professional game on January 14, 2012. He made 19 appearances in his first season and scored one goal. Metz was later moved down to a lower league.
Success in Austria
Mané moved to Red Bull Salzburg in Austria on August 31, 2012. Metz received €4 million for the transfer.
He scored his first three goals in one game (a hat-trick) for the club on October 31. On October 27, 2013, he scored his first league hat-trick. He scored another hat-trick on May 7, 2014, helping Salzburg win the cup semi-finals. That season, the team won both the league and the cup.
Making a Mark at Southampton
On September 1, 2014, Mané joined Premier League club Southampton for £11.8 million. He signed a four-year contract. He played his first game on September 22 in a League Cup win against Arsenal. He scored his first goal for the club against Stoke City a week later.
On May 16, 2015, Mané scored three goals in just 2 minutes and 56 seconds against Aston Villa. This set a new Premier League record for the fastest hat-trick ever! He finished the season with 10 goals.
In the 2015–16 season, Mané started strong. He scored twice in a 3–2 victory over Liverpool on March 20, 2016. He then scored five goals in his next five matches, including a hat-trick against Manchester City. He ended the season as Southampton's top scorer with 15 goals.
Becoming a Star at Liverpool
On June 28, 2016, Mané joined Liverpool for £34 million. This made him the most expensive African player at that time. He scored on his Premier League debut for Liverpool against Arsenal.

On December 19, he scored the only goal in a big game against Everton. In February 2017, he scored two goals in two minutes against Tottenham Hotspur. Mané was named in the PFA Team of the Year and won Liverpool's Player of the Season award.
In the 2017–18 season, Mané, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino became a famous attacking trio. On February 14, 2018, Mané scored his first hat-trick for Liverpool in a 5–0 win against Porto in the 2017–18 UEFA Champions League. He became the first Senegalese player to score in a Champions League final when he scored against Real Madrid.
On November 22, 2018, Mané signed a new long-term deal with Liverpool. He scored his 50th goal for Liverpool on March 10, 2019. He also became the club's top goalscorer away from home in the Champions League. He was nominated for the PFA Players' Player of the Year award and was named in the PFA Team of the Year.
On the last day of the 2018–19 season, Mané scored two goals, bringing his total to 22. This meant he shared the Premier League Golden Boot award with Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. On June 1, he helped Liverpool win an early penalty in the 2019 UEFA Champions League final against Tottenham, which Liverpool won 2–0.
On August 14, 2019, Mané scored twice in the 2019 UEFA Super Cup final against Chelsea, which Liverpool won. He was named man of the match. On his 100th Premier League game for Liverpool, he scored his 50th league goal for the club.
In October 2019, Mané was nominated for the 2019 Ballon d'Or award and finished fourth. In December, Liverpool won the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup. On January 7, 2020, Mané was named the CAF African Footballer of the Year. Liverpool went on to win the Premier League title at the end of the season.
In the 2020–21 season, Mané scored both goals in a 2–0 win against Chelsea. He later said this was his worst season, but he scored two goals on the final day to help Liverpool finish third and qualify for the Champions League.
In the 2021–22 season, Mané scored his 100th Liverpool goal on September 18, 2021. He also became the first player to score in nine straight league games against the same opponent. On October 16, he scored his 100th Premier League goal, becoming the third African to do so. On his 30th birthday, April 10, 2022, Mané scored an equalizing goal against Manchester City. He helped Liverpool reach the FA Cup final, which they won. He also helped them reach the Champions League final, but they lost.
Moving to Bayern Munich
On June 22, 2022, Mané joined German club Bayern Munich. The transfer fee was about €32 million. On July 30, 2022, he made his official debut and scored his first goal, helping Bayern win the 2022 DFL-Supercup.
In November, Mané got injured, which meant he could not play in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He had surgery and returned to play in February 2023. In April, there was a disagreement with a teammate, and Mané was suspended and fined by Bayern. On May 28, Mané won the Bundesliga title with Bayern.
Playing in Saudi Arabia
On August 1, 2023, the Saudi club Al Nassr announced they had signed Mané. He made his debut two days later. He scored his first goal for the club on August 14.
International Career for Senegal
Early Appearances
Mané was part of the Senegal team at the 2012 Olympic tournament. He played in every match as Senegal reached the quarter-finals.
He was unable to play in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations due to an injury. He later returned to the squad for their final group matches.
Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup
Mané played for Senegal in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. He scored a goal in their first two games. In the quarter-finals, he missed a penalty in the shootout, and Senegal was eliminated.
In May 2018, Mané was chosen for Senegal's squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He scored a goal in a 2–2 draw against Japan. Senegal was eliminated after the group stage.

Mané was called up for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. He scored two goals and helped Senegal reach the final, where they lost to Algeria. Despite this, Mané was named in the Team of the Tournament.
Recent International Success
At the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, Mané was a key player as Senegal won the competition for the first time. In the final against Egypt, he scored the winning penalty in the shootout. He scored three goals and had two assists in the tournament and was named the Player of the Tournament. He also scored the winning penalty against Egypt in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, helping his country reach the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
On June 4, 2022, Mané scored three goals against Benin. This made him Senegal's all-time top scorer with 32 goals, passing Henri Camara.
Mané was included in Senegal's squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, even though he had an injury. However, he later had to withdraw from the tournament due to his injury.
On November 18, 2023, Mané played his 100th game for Senegal, scoring twice. In December 2023, he was named in Senegal's squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Sadio Mané is known as a very complete player. His former teammate Fabinho said Mané plays with "high levels of intensity and concentration." Former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher called him a "world-class winger."
Mané is a great goalscorer. His main strengths are his finishing, speed, and amazing dribbling skills. He is also good at making smart decisions and creating chances for his teammates. Even though he is not very tall, he is good at heading the ball. Mané usually plays on the left side, which lets him cut inside and shoot with his stronger right foot. During the 2021–22 season, he also started playing more as a central striker.
Giving Back to the Community
Mané is very generous and helps his community a lot. In 2019, he gave £250,000 to build a school in his hometown of Bambali, Senegal. In March 2020, he donated £41,000 to help fight COVID-19 in Senegal.
In 2021, he donated £500,000 to build a hospital in Bambali. He has also paid for a petrol station and a post office for his village. He provides the school with free laptops and internet. In total, he has spent over £700,000 on these improvements. He also gives about €70 a month to each family in his hometown of 2,000 people.
Mané is also an ambassador for Right To Play. This group helps vulnerable children. He works with them to promote equality and opportunities for young girls and women in Senegal. He wants to show how important it is for both girls and boys to have access to sports and education.
Personal Life
While playing for Liverpool, Mané lived in Allerton, Liverpool. He is a practicing Muslim and sometimes prays before matches.
After Senegal won the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, the President of Senegal Macky Sall honored him with the title of Grand Officer of the National Order of the Lion.
He married Aisha Tamba on January 7, 2024, in an Islamic ceremony.
