Sadio Mané (born 10 April 1992) is a famous Senegalese professional footballer. He plays as a left winger for Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr and the Senegal national team. Many people consider him one of the greatest African players ever. He is also known as one of the best wingers of his time.

Mané started his professional journey with Ligue 2 club Metz when he was 19. After one season, he moved to Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg in 2012. There, he helped his team win both the league and the cup in the 2013–14 season. Later that summer, Mané joined English club Southampton. He set a new Premier League record there for the fastest hat-trick, scoring three goals in just 176 seconds! This happened in a 6–1 win against Aston Villa in 2015.

In 2016, Mané moved to Liverpool. He became the most expensive African player at that time. He formed a powerful attacking trio with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino. Together, they reached two UEFA Champions League finals. They won the second one in 2019. Mané also shared the Premier League Golden Boot as the league's top goalscorer in the 2018–19 season. He helped Liverpool win the 2019–20 Premier League, ending their 30-year wait for a league title. In October 2021, he scored his 100th Premier League goal. He was only the third African player to reach this milestone.

Mané also achieved great success with his national team. He scored 53 goals in 126 games for Senegal since 2012. He is currently his nation's all-time top goalscorer. He played for Senegal in the 2012 Olympics. He also participated in multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments. In 2019, he helped Senegal finish as runners-up. He was named African Footballer of the Year in 2020. In the 2021 final, Mané scored the winning penalty. This gave Senegal their first Africa Cup of Nations title. He was also named the Player of the Tournament. In 2022, he won the African Player of the Year award again. Mané led Senegal to their second AFCON trophy in 2025. He was once again named the tournament's best player.

Sadio Mané was born in Bambali, Senegal, on April 10, 1992. He grew up in a very religious family. As a child, he dreamed of becoming a footballer. However, his father, who was an imam, wanted him to focus on religious studies.

When Mané was seven years old, his father passed away. This event deeply affected him and his family. At 15, he bravely left his home village. With help from a childhood friend, he traveled to Dakar. His goal was to become a professional footballer. From then on, his family supported his big dream.

Rising Through the Ranks

Metz and Salzburg Adventures

In 2009, scouts noticed Mané playing in M'Bour. He then joined Génération Foot, a club he helped reach the second division. In 2011, Mané moved to Metz in France. He made his professional debut in January 2012. He played 19 games in his first season. Metz was later moved to a lower league.

In August 2012, Mané joined Red Bull Salzburg in Austria. He scored his first hat-trick for the club in October. This was in an Austrian Cup match. In October 2013, he scored another hat-trick in the Austrian Bundesliga. The 2013–14 season was very successful. His team won both the league and the cup.

Southampton: Record-Breaking Speed

On September 1, 2014, Mané moved to Premier League team Southampton. He signed a four-year contract. He made his debut later that month in a League Cup win. Mané scored his first goal for the club in October.

He scored in three games in a row in December and January. On May 16, 2015, Mané made history. He scored three goals in just 2 minutes and 56 seconds! This was the fastest hat-trick ever in the Premier League. It happened in a 6–1 victory over Aston Villa. He finished that season with 10 goals.

Mané continued to shine in the 2015–16 season. He scored twice in a 3–2 win against Liverpool. He then scored five goals in his next five matches. This included another hat-trick against Manchester City. He ended the season as Southampton's top scorer with 15 goals.

On June 28, 2016, Mané joined Liverpool. He signed a five-year contract. This transfer made him the most expensive African player at that time. He scored on his Premier League debut for Liverpool. This was in a thrilling 4–3 win against Arsenal.

In December, Mané scored the winning goal in the Merseyside derby against Everton. In February 2017, he scored two goals in two minutes against Tottenham Hotspur. This was Liverpool's first league win of 2017. Mané was named in the PFA Team of the Year. He also won the Liverpool Player of the Season award.

In the 2017–18 season, Mané scored Liverpool's first goal. He was named Premier League Player of the Month for August. He scored his first hat-trick for Liverpool in the 2017–18 UEFA Champions League against Porto. He became the second player to score an away hat-trick for the club in Europe. Mané scored in the 2018 UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid. He was the first Senegalese player to score in a Champions League final.

Premier League Champion

On November 22, 2018, Mané signed a new long-term deal with Liverpool. He scored his 50th goal for Liverpool in March 2019. He also became only the fifth Liverpool player to score in six home Premier League games in a row. He scored twice against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. This helped Liverpool reach the quarter-finals. Mané was nominated for the PFA Players' Player of the Year award. He also made the PFA Team of the Year.

On August 14, 2019, Mané scored twice in the 2019 UEFA Super Cup final. Liverpool won the match on penalties. Mané was named man of the match. He scored his 50th league goal for Liverpool in October. This was in his 100th Premier League game for the club.

In December 2019, Mané finished fourth in the 2019 Ballon d'Or award. Liverpool won the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup later that month. Mané set up the winning goal in the final. On January 7, 2020, Mané was named the CAF African Footballer of the Year. He was the second Senegalese player to win this award. Liverpool went on to win the 2019–20 Premier League title.

In the 2020–21 season, Mané scored both goals in a 2–0 win against Chelsea. He later said this was the toughest season of his career. On the final day, he scored two goals. This helped Liverpool finish third and qualify for the Champions League.

On September 18, 2021, Mané scored his 100th Liverpool goal. This was in a 3–0 win against Crystal Palace. He also set a new Premier League record. He became the first player to score in nine straight league games against the same team. On October 16, he scored his 100th Premier League goal. He was the third African to reach this milestone.

On his 30th birthday, April 10, 2022, Mané scored against Manchester City. He then scored two more goals against them in the FA Cup semi-final. Liverpool won 3–2 and reached the final, which they later won. In May, he scored the winning goal against Villarreal. This secured Liverpool's place in the 2022 UEFA Champions League final. Liverpool won both the EFL Cup and the FA Cup that season.

On June 22, 2022, Mané joined Bundesliga club Bayern Munich. He signed a contract until 2025. On July 30, 2022, Mané made his debut. He scored his first goal to help Bayern win the 2022 DFL-Supercup. A week later, he scored his first Bundesliga goal.

In November, Mané suffered an injury. This prevented him from playing in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He had surgery and returned to play in February 2023. On May 28, Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga title.

On August 1, 2023, Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr announced they signed Mané. He made his debut two days later. He scored his first goal for the club on August 14. This was in a league match against Al-Ettifaq.

International Hero for Senegal

Olympic Dreams and AFCON Journeys

Mané was part of the Senegal team at the 2012 Olympic tournament. He played in every match. Senegal reached the quarter-finals before being eliminated.

Mané played for Senegal in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. He also represented Senegal at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. He scored a goal in each of their first two games. In the quarter-finals, Senegal lost in a penalty shootout.

In May 2018, Mané was chosen for Senegal's squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He scored a goal in a 2–2 draw against Japan. Senegal was eliminated after the group stage.

Leading Senegal to Victory

Sadio Mané is known as a complete player. His Liverpool teammate Fabinho said he plays with "high levels of intensity and concentration." Former defender Jamie Carragher called Mané a "world-class winger." He compared him to famous players like John Barnes.

Mané is a great goalscorer. His main strengths include his finishing, speed, and excellent technique. He is also very tricky with the ball. He makes smart decisions and has great tactical awareness. His agility, balance, and dribbling skills are also top-notch.

Mané is also an ambassador for Right To Play. This group helps vulnerable children. He works with them to promote equality for young girls and women in Senegal. He raises awareness about the importance of sports and education for everyone.

Personal Details

Mané is a practicing Muslim. He is sometimes seen making du'a (prayer) before matches. He was honored by the President of Senegal Macky Sall. He received the Grand Officer of the National Order of the Lion award in 2022. This was after Senegal won the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

He married Aisha Tamba on January 7, 2024. At the time, he was 31 and she was 18 years old.
