- February 11 – King Amadeus I of Spain decided to step down from his role as king. This is called abdication. He had been king for a short time, and he felt he could not solve the problems in Spain.
- Blue jeans were officially given a patent. This means that Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis were given the exclusive right to make and sell them. Blue jeans are strong pants made from denim fabric, often worn by workers. They became very popular and are still worn by many people today!
