List of Formula One Grand Prix winners facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Formula One (F1) is the top level of open-wheel car racing, organized by the FIA, which is the world's main motorsport group. The "formula" means a special set of rules that all cars and drivers must follow.

An F1 season has many races called Grands Prix. These races usually happen on special tracks built just for racing, but sometimes they are held on closed-off city streets. After each race, the winner gets a trophy. All the race results are added up to decide two yearly champions: one for the drivers and one for the teams (called constructors). The Drivers' Championship started in 1950, and the Constructors' Championship was added in 1958.

Lewis Hamilton 2016 Malaysia 2
Lewis Hamilton has won 105 Grand Prix races in his career. He won 21 races with McLaren and 84 with Mercedes.

Lewis Hamilton holds the record for the most F1 race wins ever, with 105 victories. Michael Schumacher is second with 91 wins, and Max Verstappen is third with 64 wins.

Kimi Räikkönen has the longest gap between his first and last wins: 15 years and 212 days, from the 2003 Malaysian Grand Prix to the 2018 United States Grand Prix Grand Prix. Riccardo Patrese waited over six and a half years between two wins. Mario Andretti had to wait five years, seven months, and 18 days for his second win after his first.

Max Verstappen holds the record for the most wins in a row, winning ten races in 2023. He is also the youngest Grand Prix winner, at 18 years and 228 days old, when he won the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix Grand Prix. Luigi Fagioli is the oldest winner, at 53 years and 22 days old, when he won the 1951 French Grand Prix Grand Prix.

As of the 2024 Chinese Grand Prix Grand Prix, 113 different drivers have won a Formula One Grand Prix out of 776 who have started a race. The very first winner was Giuseppe Farina at the 1950 British Grand Prix Grand Prix. The most recent driver to get their first win was George Russell at the 2022 São Paulo Grand Prix Grand Prix.

A few races, like the 1951 French, 1956 Argentine, and 1957 British Grand Prix, were won by two drivers sharing one car.

The Indianapolis 500 races from 1950 to 1960 are included in this list because they were part of the World Championships back then, even though they didn't follow F1 rules and weren't called Grands Prix.
