The 1986 Formula One season was a super exciting year in the world of Formula One. It was the 37th time this championship took place. The big winner was Alain Prost, who won after a very close fight! The season kicked off on March 23 and wrapped up on October 26, with a total of sixteen thrilling races.
This year was special because it was the first time that all cars had to use turbocharged engines. This means their engines had a special device called a turbocharger that made them much more powerful. Before this, some cars used "naturally aspirated" engines, which are simpler and don't have a turbo. For a short time, Formula One only allowed turbo engines. But the rule changed again in 1987, and by 1989, all turbo engines were banned.
