The 2009 Formula One season was a super exciting year for Formula One racing! It was the 60th time the FIA held its World Championship. Ten different teams competed to see who was the best.
In the end, Jenson Button became the Drivers' World Champion. His team, Brawn GP, won the Constructors' title. This season had 17 races, starting in Australia on March 29, 2009. It finished on November 1, 2009, with the first-ever Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the new Yas Marina Circuit. Some races, like the French and Canadian ones, were not held this year.
The FIA made big rule changes to save money. This was due to a global money problem. They also wanted to make the races more exciting! New rules came in for tyres, car shapes (called aerodynamics), and a special energy recovery system (KERS). These were some of the biggest changes in Formula One in many years.
