Josh Lewin is a well-known American sportscaster. He is famous for describing sports games as they happen, which is called "play-by-play" announcing. Today, he is the voice for the UCLA Bruins football and basketball teams.

Josh Lewin has had a long and exciting career talking about sports. He has worked in many different leagues. These include baseball, football, and hockey.

Starting Out in Baseball

Lewin began his broadcasting journey very early. At just 16 years old, he was a radio commentator. He worked for the Rochester Red Wings baseball team. This team was a "Triple-A" affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. He became their main play-by-play announcer in 1991.

Major League Baseball Highlights

Lewin moved up to Major League Baseball (MLB) in 1994. He hosted a sports talk show in Baltimore. He then filled in for the Baltimore Orioles radio broadcasts.

  • Chicago Cubs and Detroit Tigers: In 1997, Lewin joined the Chicago Cubs TV team. After that, he worked for the Detroit Tigers from 1998 to 2001. In 2000, he won an award for excellence in sports broadcasting.
  • Texas Rangers: He was the TV voice for the Texas Rangers from 2002 to 2011. He was a familiar voice for fans watching their games.
  • New York Mets and Boston Red Sox: In 2012, Lewin joined the New York Mets Radio Network. He shared play-by-play duties for their games. He left the Mets after the 2018 season. In 2019, he worked part-time for the Boston Red Sox Radio Network.
  • Fox Major League Baseball: Lewin was also one of the first play-by-play announcers for Major League Baseball on Fox. He called regular season games from 1996 to 2011.

Calling National Football League Games

During football seasons, Lewin also worked for the National Football League (NFL). He was a sideline reporter and play-by-play announcer for NFL on Fox. He also called NFL games for SportsUSA.

  • San Diego Chargers: From 2005 to 2016, he was the radio voice of the San Diego Chargers. He left when the team moved to Los Angeles.
  • A Busy Day: On one busy day in 2006, Lewin called a baseball game for Fox. After that, he traveled 90 miles to call an NFL preseason game for the Chargers. This showed his dedication to sports broadcasting.

Hockey and College Sports

Lewin has also covered other sports. He filled in as the play-by-play announcer for the Dallas Stars hockey team in 2003. He also called college hockey games.

  • College Football: Lewin works for the Big Ten Network, calling college football games. Since 2016, he has been the play-by-play announcer for the UCLA Bruins football team.
  • College Basketball: He also calls college basketball games for UCLA. He works alongside former UCLA player Tracy Murray.
  • XFL Podcast: In 2023, Lewin started hosting the official podcast for the XFL football league. The podcast is called XFL Week in Review.
