High School Star
Joshua Nesbitt went to Greene County High School in Greensboro, Georgia, from 2003 to 2007. He was a really talented player and was seen as one of the best high school quarterbacks in Georgia during his senior year. Experts even ranked him as the 12th best quarterback in the entire country!
Nesbitt was named to important lists like the Scout.com national Hot 100 and the Rivals 250. He was also considered the fourth best overall player in Georgia by Scout.com. Rivals.com rated him as the ninth best "dual-threat" quarterback, meaning he was great at both passing and running the ball.
During his time in high school, Nesbitt was chosen for the all-state team twice. As a junior, he was even named the Class AA Offensive Player of the Year. He threw for 2,833 yards and 31 touchdowns, and he also ran for 1,252 yards and 22 touchdowns. In his senior year, he continued to shine, passing for 2,256 yards and 32 touchdowns with very few mistakes. He also rushed for 493 yards and scored eight more touchdowns.
College Football Career
Joshua Nesbitt played college football for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. He made a big impact during his time there, especially with his unique playing style.
Freshman Year (2007)
In his first year, Nesbitt was a backup quarterback. He was often brought into games to help with running plays, showing off his speed and agility.
Sophomore Year (2008)
In 2008, Joshua Nesbitt became the main starting quarterback for Georgia Tech. This was under a new coach, Paul Johnson, who used a special "option offense." This type of offense relies a lot on the quarterback making quick decisions to either run the ball himself or hand it off to another player. Nesbitt was perfect for this system because he was so good at running.
Junior Year (2009)
The 2009 season was amazing for Nesbitt and the Yellow Jackets. He ran for an impressive 1,037 yards and scored 18 touchdowns on the ground. He also threw for 1,701 yards and 10 touchdowns. He led his team to win the ACC Championship Game and even played in a major bowl game called the Orange Bowl. The team finished the season with a great record of 11 wins and only 3 losses. Because of his outstanding performance, Nesbitt was named the first-team quarterback for the ACC.
Senior Year (2010)
Nesbitt returned for his senior year, ready to lead his team again. However, he unfortunately broke his right arm during a game on November 4, 2010. This injury meant he couldn't play for the rest of the season.
Even with the injury, Nesbitt had already set some incredible records for a quarterback at Georgia Tech and in the ACC:
- He rushed for 2,806 yards in his college career. This was more rushing yards than any other quarterback in ACC history!
- He also rushed for 35 touchdowns in his career. This was six more than any other quarterback in ACC history and 16 more than any previous Georgia Tech quarterback.
Professional Football Career
After college, Joshua Nesbitt was not chosen in the 2011 NFL draft. However, the Buffalo Bills signed him as a defensive back, which is a different position than quarterback.
On September 3, 2011, he was released from the Bills' main roster, but he was quickly signed to their practice squad the very next day. A practice squad allows players to train with the team. On November 15, 2011, Nesbitt was officially added to the Bills' 53-man roster as a safety.
In August 2012, he was waived by the Bills due to an injury. He then moved to the team's injured reserve list.
