José Manuel Soria López (born 5 January 1958) is a Spanish politician and businessman. He was a very important person in the Canary Islands government. Later, he became a minister for Spain. He served as the Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism from 2011 to 2016. He left his job in April 2016 because of his connections to some companies based in other countries.

Early Life and Education
José Manuel Soria was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, in 1958. He studied economics and business at university. This helped him understand how money and trade work.
Career in Politics and Business
Soria started his career in business and economics. He worked for the Spanish Embassy in Venezuela as a market analyst. He also worked for the Spanish government in trade and finance.
Becoming a Mayor
In 1995, Soria became the mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. This is a big city in the Canary Islands. He was mayor until 2003. During this time, he also became the leader of the Popular Party in the Canary Islands in 1999.
Leading in the Canary Islands
After being mayor, Soria continued to hold important roles. From 2003 to 2007, he was the president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria. This is like being the head of the island's government. He also became a member of the regional parliament. From 2007 to 2010, he was the vice-president and treasury minister for the Canary Islands government. This meant he helped manage the region's money.
Serving as a National Minister
In 2011, José Manuel Soria was chosen for a big job in the Spanish government. He became the Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism. He worked under Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy. In this role, he was in charge of important areas like factories, power, and helping tourists visit Spain.
Resignation from Office
In April 2016, some information came out about companies linked to Soria and his family. These companies were based in places like the Bahamas. After this information was shared, Soria decided to resign from his job as minister. He also stepped down from his leadership roles in his political party and as a member of parliament.
World Bank Candidacy
Later in 2016, the Spanish government suggested Soria for a job at the World Bank. This is a big international organization that helps countries develop. However, many people and politicians in Spain were not happy about this idea. Because of this, Soria decided not to take the job.
