Journey to the West – Legends of the Monkey King is an exciting animated TV show from 2000. It was made by companies in China and Canada. The show is based on a very old Chinese novel called Journey to the West.

There are 26 episodes in total. Each episode is about 22 minutes long. There is also a special 75-minute movie that tells a story from before the series began. The English version of the show first aired in Canada on Teletoon in 2000. Later, it was shown in the United States. Many people think it is a classic Chinese cartoon.

The Story of the Monkey King

This animated series tells the amazing adventures of Sun Wukong, also known as the Monkey King. He was born from a magical stone! For a long time, he was trapped under a mountain. This was his punishment for causing trouble in the heavens.

One day, the kind goddess Guanyin told Monkey about a special mission. A monk named Tang Sanzang would free him. Monkey would then join the monk on a long journey. Their goal was to travel from China all the way to India.

The very next day, Tripitaka (another name for Tang Sanzang) arrived. He set the Monkey King free. And so, their incredible "Journey to the West" began!

New Friends and Big Challenges

As they traveled, Monkey and Tripitaka met two new friends. These were Zhu Bajie, who is part-pig, and the wise Hermit Sha Wujing. They all decided to join the journey.

Together, this brave group faced many dangers. They met evil creatures and powerful sorcerers. Through all their adventures, they also learned how to get along and work as a team.
