Early Life and Education
Jovita Moore was born in New York City on October 4, 1967. When she was growing up, she loved watching the news on TV with her mother, Yvonne. This early interest likely sparked her passion for journalism.
She went to Bennington College and earned a Bachelor's degree. While studying, she also got to intern at The New York Times, a very famous newspaper. Later, she continued her education at Columbia University, where she earned a Master's degree in broadcast journalism. This helped her prepare for a career in TV news.
Her Amazing Career
Starting Out in News
Jovita Moore began her career as a news anchor in 1990. Her first job was in Fort Smith, Arkansas, at KFSM-TV, which is a CBS channel. After three years there, she moved to Memphis, Tennessee. In Memphis, she worked for WMC-TV, an NBC channel, from 1993 to 1998.
In 1998, Jovita moved to Atlanta, Georgia, to work for WSB-TV. This station is part of the ABC network. In 2001, she won an Emmy Award for a news story she did about a health condition. This story was special because it also talked about her own experience with the condition and her surgery. She went on to win eight more Emmy Awards during her career, showing how talented she was.
Becoming a Main Anchor
In July 2012, Jovita Moore was chosen for a very important role. She took over as the main anchor for the 5:00, 6:00, and 11:00 evening newscasts at WSB-TV. She worked alongside another anchor named Justin Farmer. In 2017, she received the Silver Circle award. This special award is given by the Southeastern Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences to people who have made a big impact in television.
Helping the Community
Beyond her work as a news anchor, Jovita Moore was very active in her community. She helped many different groups and non-profit organizations around Atlanta. She also served on the boards of directors for several organizations. These included the Atlanta Association of Black Journalists and the National Association of Black Journalists. Her Health Journey
In April 2021, doctors found two brain tumors. Jovita had surgery to remove them, which was successful. However, she was later diagnosed with glioblastoma. This is a very serious and aggressive type of brain cancer. While she was away from work, other anchors like Sophia Choi, Linda Stouffer, and Lori Wilson filled in for her. Jovita Moore sadly passed away from the disease on October 28, 2021, when she was 54 years old.

Jovita Moore was a Catholic. She was married to Sean Griffith, but they divorced in 2014. Together, they had three children: two daughters named Shelby and Lauren, and a son named Joshua.
